Can someone explain to me what the SDK is? I'm not a complete newb, I just have no idea what this is and what is has to do with half-life.

Software Development Kit.

Valve released one for HL1 which let people make all the cool mods you see today ;]

Basically you can say its just a copy of the half life source code. People use it to modify the hl code (hence the word mod) to make their own games.

Erm, it's a copy of a part of the HL source code. Normally engine interface + base gamedll.

It's all a giant ruse. There is no SDK. There never will be an SDK. Valve is just playing a prolonged April Fools' joke on the community. You'll see, there will be no SDK when HL2 ships, there will be no SDK by New Year, there will be no SDK by end of March, and on April 1st, Valve will put out a press release saying little more than "Suckers!".

i might be mistaken but i want to remember that i have seen/read that HL2 is to be released the 16 of november doesnt this mean that the SDK should be out before the 16 of november??

No, Valve has stated from the beginning the SDK could come out even a month after the release.

eh...and i was gunna buy one of the packages.....sounds like i should wait til the sdk is released and hope that u can just buy cs source....

The SDK is completely separate from the game. The SDK doesn't let you run a game without buying it. Your decision to buy the game, or which package to buy, shouldn't be influenced by the availability of the SDK. And as I said before, the SDK isn't coming out. Ever.

I heard this as well, although I should go do my own research. I really cant wait to play HL2 myself as I thoroughly enjoyed part one. I think I have played it through about 4 times.

As far as the SDK is concerned, if the release date above is accurate, we can expect the kit to be made available mid December at the latest...so not too much longer... :)
