View Full Version : How to make your server go past a router
type in 192.168.0.1 or something simliler to it in the adress bar.
Type in password.
In the advance section, look at the left. there will be dmz.
Click it and set it to you ip and enable it.
restart your server and own some noobs (like you)
This is not for all the routers. this is how i do it. My router is a D-link. The steps varies depending on your router :) if ya need help, send me pics of ur router (192.168.0.1 not hte real router) and ill make steps for that.
PICS WILL BE ADDED LATER

this is bad advice.... setting it to DMZ will make your computer outisde the routers firewall. Basically leaves you open to being hacked and viruses and worms. Best bet it to forward the ONE port you need for the server.
how i do that ?? i already said i dont know jack about routers ...

find the manual for your router and read it. All routers are different.
i cant forawrd it to one port because i dont know what to forawrd, it isnt only 1 port. i think 2 or 3. and anyways, i have a firewall and my router disables scans.

it is only one port....
its the port the server is running on. I run my own ded server for testing and I only forward the port the server runs on and it works fine, other can connect to it and help me test.

check steam forum for your router, then check your router's page for steam, this is not the place, there are too many possible things particular to each router
they are all simular tho.
its called google use it:

find the internal IP of your computer, it should list it on the server as its IP. type: status into the server console and it will show yu the IP and port of the server, something like this:
tcp/ip : 192.168.1.10:27020
put the first half in for the IP you want to forward to (192.168.1.10),
then forward the correct port (27020).
thats it.
Oh and if you want to connect to your own dedicated server you MUST connect using the internal LAN ip (192.168.1.10:27020) not your external IP. Everyone else not in your LAN (your house) must use the external IP.

run it with this in the command line for the shortcut to start it
+port 27016
it should always start on 27016 then
Or if you go to the:
>Play games menu
>right click go to properties
>Launch Options button
>then add it there

Claw, what kind of server are you running. Dedicated or listen? I have never seen a server randomly change ports like this but I have heard people talking about it before. I am guessing its a listen server.
How are you finding this port number that you think is what the server is running on? A console command? or the steam games list?

im running a dedicated server and i ask the guys that join my server for the IP for this server that they connected to..
that how i find out that it changes port all the time
If you don't know the IP yourself, I don't think that you run a dedicated server...
Could it might be that you open CS and click 'New Game' ?
Then you can't control the ip (I don't think that you can).
But you need the ip to connect to a dedicated server. Or ?
I have to connect via. the steam-server page. And to do that I need to IP.

I find it hard to belive your running a dedicated server.
What are the steps you do to start your server?
Is the server ONLY running if your playing (this is a listenserver)
Are you starting the server through the "games" menu in steam.

>Play games menu
>Press DEDICATED SERVER
and this "Start dedicated server" menu comes up..
i set that "UDP Port" on 27016 but still it doesnt work..
Ive tried this too :
run it with this in the command line for the shortcut to start it
+port 27016
it should always start on 27016 then

On my dedicated server menu when its up it only shows my

when the game is running type this in the server console
status
it will show your IP:PORT your server is running on. It should be port 27016.
Thats the port it is on, end of story.
Unless you have your router setup to forward random ports or your router is just plain retarded it will work fine and your friends telling you these random port numbers are stupid.
I don't think that it is your ip adress.
Not when it is the :27016 that disappears...

*SMACK* You think I don't know what I'm talking about you fool?
you dont think what is your IP?
I never told him that the IP listed in the status message was his IP people connect to, but it is the port people should connect to.
The IP listed will be his internal LAN IP.
Dude sorry...

Read your routers manual.
also you never did the status command and showed me what the result was.
You can't really forward random ports. My guess is that you dont have anything forwarded and your router is just retarded.

see your server is running on port 27016
now have you ever setup your router to forward a port to your machine? because it may be forwarding random ports automatically, but if you setup an actual forward it will work correctly.

www.whatismyip.com
see what your REAL IP is.
anything that start with 192.168.* is a internal LAN ip and cannot be used on the internet (only in your little lan behind your router)
have people connect to your real ip:port

i set up my dedicated server and the server shows me the router ip as its ip and then i just search for the server on the servers search thing. make the name of ur server something odd and then sort by name and u can find it easy and make sure that u let it search all the way till it stops.
i have a question. my port was consistant for a while even tho the server crashed a few times, but when i went to give my comp a rest and turned it off for a night the port was different. any suggestions on how to fix it?

Maybe your router listens on a different ip or on a different port than 80. Check your manual.

Try with: 192.168.2.1
That is the one I use.
Otherwise you can test switching the last 2 digies.
Mostly used there ars: 0, 1, 2
