NFo Affiliation, Forum Fixes

I'm pleased to announce that we've chosen to affiliate with NuclearFallout (http://rentals.nuclearfallout.net/) for our upcoming official server! NFo is well known as an excellent game server provider and promoter of AMX Mod X, providing a quality community and gaming experience. I look forward to working with the great guys at NFo for our gaming server needs. We'll launch the initial GabenMod server in NYC, hosted by NFo, after 1.65 is released.

As part of the past week's "rapid news posting", I've also got some forum updates: Temporarily replaced that annoying SF logo with a local one, your browser won't sit there loading it forever now
Fixed the main index of the site taking 6-10 seconds to load
Removed "birthday" mod
Added an awesome new logo by twistedeuphoria (http://www.amxmodx.org/forums/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2542)
Hopefully, with our new army of beta testers :) we'll be able to get the next release out as quickly and smoothly as possible, as well as launch GabenMod and the official server.

Remember - the door isn't closed for beta testing or official server ideas. If you think you have a unique or test-worthy setup and you'd like to do beta-testing, just give me a PM. If you have any ideas for tying the server into the forums or anything, just reply to this post.

(PS - If you didn't figure it out, the logo is a joke! We're working on a new one.)

just a suggestion for the server. Maybe get it hosted in Dallas, i saw apoc say if its hosted in NY he'll ping 100+, well i live in Ontario, and i got a friend in Cali, and we can play in a Dallas server and we'll both ping solid 50's. Where my NY servers he pings 80's. Seems to me thats the location that will allow most ppl to ping decently. Just a thought ;)

Hey Bail,

what was the problem and how could you fix it? Our forum has the same problem. It also takes 5-10 seconds to load and the mysql-requests causes temp cpu-tops (only when loading the index.php).
Actually I'm rebuilding our forum from zero on and with the standard-installation everything runs smooth. Do you have any hints for me to get our old installion running without these index-loading-laggs?

That's different.
Because I live in Finland and there's Atlantic Ocean between NYC and Finland.
I can try to play in there, if i dont get kicked for high ping.

ah, lol i was thinking you were in the states somewhere. When you said 100 ping, and u hoped it wasnt in NY, i assumed west coast states, as im east coast, and ping 100 in west coast servers, and vice versa. But ya that makes it a bit more complicated heh.

the server is very big. So big in fact that it sits on over 40 states at the same time. So no matter where you are you will ping good.

I have it on good authority that the server location has been decided in such a way that it's somewhere where the highest percentage of people unwanted on the server, will have a high ping to it. In theory, this would deter them from connecting.

I chose the server location by looking at http://www.frappr.com/amxmodx/ which PM started in the OT forums (it's still sticked as "Hello" I think). The biggest concentration was in east coast USA and again in Europe -- so, if the server works out, we'll try to get one in Europe as well.

It should be fairly simple to rewrite. It didn't have very complex features from my understanding. The concept wasn't flawed, just the implementation.

I'm afraid that the reason why I found Bailopan's report helpful is that I myself am not capable of coding in PHP, nor in recognizing bad code (at all). I'll leave rewriting to coders :)
