(date problems - had to restart this thread)
As the more astute of you may have noticed, the site was down for some time. A long time. I apologize for this as it was partly my own stupidity, but it's back up now and this shouldn't happen again.

First up:
AMX Mod X 0.20 made a lot of progress. We've started giving out beta binaries to the testing team and the changelog is huge. The biggest points: PM has finished the new module API.
Core no longer uses metamod to load modules.
Modules now have a unified interface (which includes nicities for 64bit).
I have redone Engine and MySQL from scratch.
With mahnsawce's permission, have made an official "NS2AMXx" module which contains the NS-only portions of the module (I ported everything else into Engine).
The core now uses the JIT (this is a huge performance boost) and PM is porting the JIT to Linux.

To dispel some rumours:
1. The server is not my home computer.
2. The place it's being hosted is not a colo center with lazy employees.
3. The server is not made of turtles.
4. I'm not looking for another host.
5. The server is not secretly stashed in a high school lab.

What happened, simply: there was a network configuration change, I couldn't find anyone to go reboot/re-DHCP the server. End of story :?

Are you sure the server is not made of turtles ???

PM

of course it is, DopeFish
every turtle represents one bit

AssKicR
05-25-2004, 15:04
well his system is build up entirly of tutles....

a Turtle = 1
a Turtle on it's back = 0

By using this simple logic his computer can read the collection of turtles and do what BAILOPAN want it to do

BAILOPAN doesn't have a hard drive, he just has about 200 chinese females in his basement and forces them to memorize numbers.

Hi all

It is surely good to hear, that everything is running now! A week of having nothing to read about THE mod was not good.

So go on doing the best, very good job!

:D

I heard it was down because the server is being hosted on the back of a turtle , It had the downtime because the turtle stopped. Someone poked him with a stick and that is why he is moving again. :)

So is there any ideas of when you will release it to everyone?
And will this fix the Linux Crashing and Reliable Overflow problems?

Thanks and Glad your back up!!

QwertyAccess

Reliable Overflow problems depend on your server what your running on it can send too much data to clients, and if your clients cant handle that data fast enough they overflow. as for linux crashing i dunno what your talking about. And when it will be released? When its done.

Core no longer uses metamod to load modules.
Forgive this question but I have to ask due to a comment I read recently. This doesn't mean that Metamod is no longer required does it? I didn't read it that way, but someone else has (poster on csnation). I would imagine such a change would have been more clear in it's mention. And maybe this isn't what the poster read at all to come to that conclusion but it's the closest thing I could find without wasting my entire morning searching.

I'll take a chance to explain the difference as XAD explained it to me.

Firstly, AMX Mod X still requires metamod.

With OLO's Module method, AMX used to load modules by attaching them to AMX and then attaching them to Metamod, and then forcing a server restart to reinitialize all the metamod forward calls to the modules. XAD's point was this is both messy and dangerous, and could cause memory leaks.

The solution to this was having AMXx emulate metamod internally, so modules think they are attached to metamod but they are actually attached to AMXx, which is just wrapping MM. You can verify this with the 0.20 listenserver alpha, if you do the "meta info" command on AMXx you can see that it hooks every single Metamod call.

You can also see that with AMX, modules appear both in the AMX modules menu and the Metamod one - in AMXx, they only appear in the amxx modules menu.

This is probably why, back with AMX 0.9.3, that metamod modules had to be placed in the metamod plugins.ini as well, with 0.9.6j the biggest change was his hack to fix that.
