SYCAMORE - A 17-year-old Sycamore High School student faces two felony weapons charges after allegedly bringing a handgun to school Friday.
The district superintendent and the chief of police both stressed that the boy had no intention of using the gun against anyone at the school.

“At no time were any students or staff members in danger,” Superintendent Wayne Riesen said. “The student had no intention of harming anyone.”

Sycamore Police Chief Don Thomas identified the student as Daniel A. Larson, 17, of Sycamore. Riesen declined to confirm the student's name or grade, citing confidentiality laws.

Thomas said police were called to the school around 11:15 a.m. Riesen said school staff called the police, but he was not sure how the staff learned Larson had a gun.
“If it was a student (who told administrators), that would restore my faith in young people, that they would come forward with information like that,” he said.

Thomas said that by the time police arrived, another student had taken the gun away from Larson and removed it from the school's campus. The .25-caliber pistol was later recovered at the second student's home. That student has not been charged, and his name has not been released.

“There are no plans to charge the student who took the gun away from him,” Thomas said.

“His friend, when he realized this student had a gun, talked him into turning it over to him, and he then took the gun from the school for (Larson's) safety and the safety of others,” he said.

Larson was taken to DeKalb County Jail and charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a Class 4 felony punishable by one to three years in prison and a $25,000 fine on each count. He was scheduled to appear before a judge this morning.
Riesen said the school also will take disciplinary action, though he said confidentiality laws prohibited him from detailing what sort of discipline Larson may face.

“Disciplinary processes and proceedings take time to play out,” he said. “But the community can be assured school officials will take this matter very seriously and handle the situation with appropriate consequences.”

Oh and by the way...there's a reason why its not happening in Norway, because its a completely different soceity. You're comparing a socialistic society to a capitalistic society. A socialistic society tends to put the blame on the self, while in a capitalistic society the blame goes to the people around that person.

You havnt done your research either, because it damn well can happen in Norway, and im suprised it hasnt happened yet. The kid came to school with the gun to shoot himself, not others. Norway has one of the highest per capita suicide rates in the world, there is more than enough reason to say that yes, this CAN happen in Norway.
