Hello guys,

I have a big probleme with my CS 1.6.
At first when I installed Counter Strike 1.6, it worked fine with me for almost two weeks. But then one morning its just wouldn't work.
Every time i create a server or even try to connect to an online server, CS freezes on "validating game resources". But my mouse is still working
when i hit shift+tab, nothing happens, when i bring up the task manager, it indicates that cs is still running fine and NOT "not responding". In order to quit cs i have to disable the process (hl.exe)
I tried a lot of thing, Uninstalling cs and steam and then reinstalling, download again. I dont think it could be a virus since my kapersky antivirus is always up to date and it didnt alert me of any virus or malicious software, but i am scanning the whole computer anyway.

i have a good computer, specs: (hp pavilion dv6)
intel core i7 processor
8 GB RAM DDR3
1TB Hard disk
2GB VGA

so in theory the counter strike should work
but i dont know why its not working ...

can anyone help me plz????
i would really appreciate it

I have found that deleting clientregistry.blob and then let steam download it again worked. Did you make sure that all files was removed when you uninstalled steam?

Try right-clicking counter-strike in your steam library
Click properties
Go to the local files tab
Select "Verify integrity of game cache..."
Let it do it's job and see if it helps.

here's a thing i forgot to mention

i have the same counter strike installed on another computer and it works perfect, no flaws what so ever
but on my laptop, it doesn't seem to work

i also thought that maybe i messed up something in the video settings of the computer and i reset everything to default, and still nothing

EDIT: i am running windows 7, i have searched on google and some say it's windows 7, could that be it??
i dont think so, but i am starting to doubt that ...

then I would suggest you play around with your video settings.

try different resolutions (preferably the ones your laptop is running with or 100% able to handle), windowed mode (start with parameter -window) and different graphic api's (opengl, direct3d or software mode, the parameters are "-opengl" or "-gl", "-d3d", "-soft" or "-software")

My guess is it's Steam. He mentions trying the Shift+Tab (which is the Steam keypress combo for the friends list) and gets nothing.

Something is happening as he's able to get in that far and he further mentions, "or even try to connect to an online server". So he can start it up, but evidently can't get the game itself going. I think his issue probably has something to do with his video (maybe it got switched to something his computer can't do, and so it quits and locks up).
