How do I get a new mysql .a file?

I'm trying to do a linux compile... Where do the .a files come from?

I.E.
libmysqlclient.a
libz.a

That are with the amxx mysql module in : extra\lib_linux

I wanted to try to get the updated ones for MySQL 4.1, but I don't know if I have to do like a compile to get them or what...

Any insight would be great! Thanks!

Get them from MySQL's downloads, get a binary package and it will be in the libs folder
